Simultaneous
The interpreter renders the message in the target language continuously and simultaneously with the speaker. The interpreter sits in a booth and the audience follow the speech through headphones.

Consecutive
The interpreter stands or sits beside the speaker and translates the speech after the speaker has finished during pauses deliberately made by the speaker.

Liaison
A form of consecutive interpretation, usually shorter sequences of the speech e.g. sentence-by-sentence and typically to smaller groups of people.

Whispered
The interpreter stands or sits next to the speech recipient and whispers the translation simultaneously; does not require equipment.

Escort
The interpreter accompanies the client to various events such as fairs, cultural events, guided visits, exhibitions. Best for individuals and small groups when contact with the interpreter is more close and direct.

Social interpretation
Interpretation with potential external “interrupting” factors such as hostile parties to the event, emotional background, different ranks of participants (interpretation for healthcare, education or government sectors). “Strenuous” situation may oftentimes affect the interpreter, therefore not only resistance to stress but also impartiality is crucial to keep translation standard high.
